info:
Formed late in 2008, it didn’t take long for six piece band DOJO CUTS to become Australia’s hottest heavy funk unit. The band combine crisp, tight, funky instrumentals with some killer vocals by the delectable Roxie Ray that are in equal parts power and grit. Inspired by the sounds of the 60s and 70s, combined with elements of modern funk, Dojo Cuts create timeless, classic feel-good music.

Following in the footsteps of Aussie funk groups such as Cookin’ On 3 Burners, The Bamboos, Deep Street Soul and Kylie Auldist, Dojo Cuts seem to be stirring up a storm in the Southern hemisphere and beyond, making them the most likely candidates to become the brightest stars of this fast growing scene.

With heavy breaks coming from the inexorably-in-sync rhythm section, accompanied by a harmonious horn section and the awesome vocals of the one and only Roxie Ray, it's easy to see why this band never fails to get audiences strutting and squawking at their explosive live shows.

Their self-titled debut album captures all that energy and lets it unfold throughout the 9 tracks it contains, from the cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight”, to that of Marie ‘Queenie’ Lyons’ “See and Don’t See”, originally-penned cuts such as “Say What You Mean” and “Something Going On”, as well as single “The 1-2-3’s”, which secured them massive airplay on radios and dancefloors worldwide.

tracklist:
A. Tennessee (Remix) – 4:40

B1. Tennessee (The Mix) - 4:43
B2. Tennessee (For DJ's Only) - 2:15

info:
"Tennessee" is the title of a number-one R&B single by alternative hip hop group Arrested Development, from its album 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of.... The song contains a sample of Prince's "Alphabet St." It peaked at number six in the United States and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1993. The music video for the song was directed by Milcho Manchevski and shot in Georgia (USA), with friends of the group and people from the local area appearing in the clip.

Speech was inspired to write the song after meeting up with his brother at his grandmother's funeral in Tennessee. Shortly afterward, his brother died suddenly from a bad asthma attack, and Speech wrote the song about the experience of losing two loved ones so close together

"Tennessee" uses a sample from Prince's "Alphabet St." that was not cleared ahead of time. Prince's lawyers waited until after the song sold well and then charged the group $100,000 for the use of said sample. Speech later said he felt Prince gave him "a break" by demanding a single payment instead of co-writing credit on the song, which would have entitled Prince to a share of all royalties in the future.

"Tennessee" topped the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks for one week and peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the United Kingdom, the song spent a seven-week run on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number forty six, but after the top ten successes of both "People Everyday" and "Mr. Wendal" on the chart, it was re-released in 1993, charting for a further six weeks and peaking at number eighteen.

B3. The Stick - 8:23

info:
The Time is the 1981 debut album by The Time. The album proper was produced and arranged by Prince (using the moniker Jamie Starr)

The Time produced three singles: "Get It Up" (#6 R&B), "Cool" (#7 R&B, #90 Pop) and "Girl" (#49 R&B).

Although the individual members of The Time are credited with instrumentation, in reality the music was almost entirely performed by Prince. The only instrumental performance not by Prince was by Doctor Fink, who played synth on "Cool". Morris Day sang lead vocals, replacing Prince's guide vocals.

The credits list the recording studio as the fictional "Time Studio", but recording took place in Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, Minnesota, USA during April 1981. "Oh, Baby" had originally been recorded during the Prince album sessions from late April to 13 June 1979, at Alpha Studios, Burbank, California, USA, but the version on the album is from the April 1981, sessions.

The album was mixed at Hollywood Sound Recorders, Los Angeles, California, in late April 1981.

The album peaked at No. 50 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 7 on the US Top Soul LPs charts. The album spent a total of 32 weeks on the Billboard 200 and 45 weeks on the R&B Albums chart. The album was eventually certified gold for sales of over 500,000 copies in the United States.

B4. M'Lady - 2:44
B5. Jane Is A Groupee - 2:49

info:
Unlike its predecessor, Dance to the Music, Life was not a commercial success, although it has received mostly positive reviews from music critics over the years. Many of its songs, including "M'Lady", "Fun", "Love City", as well as the title track, became popular staples in the Family Stone's live show. A middle ground between the fiery A Whole New Thing and the more commercial Dance to the Music, Life features very little use of studio effects, and is instead more driven by frontman Sly Stone's compositions. Topics for the album's songs include the dating scene ("Dynamite!", "Chicken", "M'Lady"), groupies ("Jane is a Groupee"), and "plastic" (or "fake") people (the Beatlesque "Plastic Jim", which references "Eleanor Rigby" in its chorus). Of particular note is that the Family Stone's main themes of unity and integration are explored here in several songs ("Fun", "Harmony", "Life", and "Love City").
